“Merdre!” In December 1896 the world was gifted with the premiere of Ubu Roi, an absurdist burlesque and a deep parody of Macbeth wherein an ambitious and cowardly man rises to power and then subsequently fails. It’s filled to bursting with profanity, bent wit, and dim social commentary. Here we are, our own year is winding down and there’s still way more to be said so onward.
