This is a proof-of-concept video by the Japanese design house PROTOTYPE that was built to showcase their new modular interactive large scale touch screen installation process. This concept can be scaled to sizes way beyond the 20 iPod demo and easily maintained, repaired & replaced.

Reportedly it can be built to drag & drop touch react to nearby ipods but until there is video of that it seems unlikely. Still in a Art world where Iphones are king this seems fitting for a install in Basel Miami coming up for sure.

The Dubai Fountain which was announced in June of 2008 by developer Burj Dubai has officially been opened. At an estimated cost of $218 Million USD or 800 Million AED the fountain is the largest and most complex of it’s kind. Surpassing the Fountains of Bellagio at Las Vegas by at least 25%.

The fountains which are over 300 yards in length can shoot to the maximum height of 150 meters, which is equivalent to the 50-story building or 1/5th of the way up the nearby Burj Dubai super-skyscraper that is set to be completed by January of 2010.

The video is of the system in action reading text from the “Proclamation of the European Environmental Criminal Court at the 2009 World Venice Forum”. Watch and be amazed at just how many keys it takes in succession to even get close to a single human vowel.

As with any good debate it’s in the light of opposite views that you find informative and interesting contrasts and in this case one of the better opinions came in the form of a new song by artist Dan Bull who sampled Ms. Allen’s song “22″ to make an open singing letter titled “Dear Lily”

MythBusters hosts Jamie Hyneman & Adam Savage (Who I always contested reminded me of two other hosts) built and presented at a Nvidia announcement a 1100 barrel paintball gun that illustrated the parallel processing available on GPU’s to make a recreation of DaVinci’s Mona Lisa in one single group shot.

The gun itself is a sight to see and looks like it was removed from the midsection of a Rocket. All this paintball junk video makes me want to forget city wide kickball and start a Bad at Sports paintball league hahahaha. I bet our Meg can kick the butt of your Meg anytime :)

The screen is made up of a horizontal series of hanging vertical tubes with LEDs built into them to create a solid image. The visual display is completely procedural without any prerecorded interactions or video. Everything that is shown is a byproduct of multiple variables from room traffic, weather, noise and heat in the focus locations in the room to create the movements or subjects on the screen with the potential of never showing the same interaction twice. The video of the installation is below and apart from the promotion hard sell it is a good example of art installation tech that is growing now.
