PB -I completely agree with you concening the weird Jeff Wall Placement -other than that we I guess, disagree: 265 thousand sq ft -the lions share of it taken up by that suburban mall like/ hedge funded atrium/party room...with almost no art -only 64 of 265 thousand sq ft dedicated to exhibiting art- later this week on sharkforum -

....those small narrow galleries -on the same apparent 19th century footprint as the old space.......has anyone read Roberta Smith discussing the narrowness of the contemporary art being shown -and we know, she was being polite even then-

I had the opportunity to go to the opening last night, and I can't recommend highly enough running out to see the new wing for yourself. The AIC did an amazing job, the contemporary, modern, design and architecture galleries are amazing. Photo is a bit uneven and what in the hell is up with the weird installation of the excellent Jeff Wall piece paired up with little works that don't connect at all outside of the photo galleries? The Jeff Wall works deserve better that the odd afterthought installation. Still it is nice to have them have better gallery space. But beyond that glitch, everything is amazing. I was stunned that the AIC even had a design collection, the new design gallery was spectacular, Curator Zoe Ryan is to be applauded! Anyway, I could rattle on, stop reading this and head the hell over to the AIC!

Other than Richard's little bit above, and a comment from Wesley, I have neither heard nor read ANY criticism of anything to do with the Wing --- architecture, hanging or choices of work. I haven't seen it of course yet, living in Europe, and I appreciate a little enthusiasm, --- but is it REALLY all that hunky-fdory?

Thanks so much for this podcast "tour". I visited the Modern Wing last night and felt like I had a deeper understanding of how and why the work was chosen for the galleries. The podcast enhanced my experience of this exciting new space. The best part was watching my boyfriend getting excited and inspired by the art. He was even taking notes! I think the new Modern Wing will have that effect on many visitors, and I encourage EVERYONE to go see it.

To clarify, (sorry too early) as I think I wasn't clear, I think the Jeff Wall pieces looked great, but I am mystified as to why someone tacked two little photos next to the epic Jeff Wall pieces, I actually really like the Jeff Wall works, and where the were installed, but the overall space was weird. Anyway, not sure that was any more articulate than my first muddled comment.
