Your best bet would be to contact one of the auction houses (Sotheby’s or Christies) for an appraisal, assuming the artist is a “name” artist they will have the expertise and information to assist you. They are generally good sports about this sort of thing.

Also, it is a bad idea to post your phone number on strange blogs. The folks here are by and large nice folk, but it isn’t a good practice, unless you want to be besieged by pranksters and telemarketers.

I am looking for some information about a painting that my husband and I purchased about 6 or 7 years ago at an Antique store. The artist was John Phillips and the painting was of John Mcgraw and Honus Wagner. If you know anything about this painting we would greatly appreciate you contacting us with that information. We live in the Baltimore area and were actually considering letting the Orioles orginization borrow it for display at their stadium.

I’ve know John Phillips at least 20 years, both as a friend and as a co-conspirator, and my appreciation of him was enhanced by the BaS dialog. Thank you.
