End of the World as We Know it!

All together now:

“And I feel fine”

Large Hadron Collider

I move back to Chicago to live and work and what happens those evil “physicists” who just can’t be content in knowing that it only takes 3 licks to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop have to split it open to find the “charm” inside. By doing so might in fact end the world as we know it.

I get back here only to have it all end? Well to help count down the moments to your doom (or the evaporation of your student loans if your of the college persuasion) here is a countdown clock ticking down the time before the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland is turned on. So aperently if it’s anything that the Swiss do well it’s clocks and very large high-energy particle accelerators, the two just go hand in hand.

Thanks go out to the Wanker we all know and love Richard “Speak Gravely but carry a Talking Stick” Holland for the clock.

  1. I want to say right now to Mark Staff Brandl before he give the written lashing I deserve for the Swiss Clocks comment…….

    Cookoo!

  2. Actually, I think you are right. The funny part is that originally all the Swiss watchmakers were feared in Europe because they were radical Anarchists (in the Jura area mostly). Now they are afraid due to the absolute precision.

A lot of the extremely exact elements of the Space missions are Swiss made (the shield for the Mars unit, the lazer-mirror thing for the moon, etc.). Even though many average Swiss think the whole space thing is a Hollywood farce, because they begrudge the US and insist the US is actually technologically behind. The actual scientists and so on here in Cheeseyland work hand-in-hand with US and international research.

  3. By the way, the only real mistake you made was Cuckoo. That’s a typical American mistake. Cuckoo clocks are Black Forest (that is GERMAN, Bavarian), not Swiss.

  4. Thanks for the info, it’s cool that you guys made the parts that my neighbors and such worked on since when I was a kid I lived a stone throw from LB Johnson Space Center on NASA road 1.

Oh and having to apologize for the apology and not the post, that’s truly ironic and we all love the “irony” in the art world :)

    Thanks Mark

  5. That’s “Swanker” to you boy-o.

  6. 24 days to go!

  7. I’d like to point out that CERN/Hadron Collider has begun, and as far as I can see the world still exists.

Maybe Elvis started it. With the pope.

  8. It did end we just rebooted it. Next time you see your IT person thank him/her for saving the world……… and your email cause you just had to open that greeting card attachment with an .exe extension didn’t you.

  9. It would have been cool if they had started CERN up and the ARTworld melted down.
