If you have seen Miranda July’s film, you know it need to be posted here.

Strangely enough, Miranda July spoke last night at YBCA in a panel on art an generosity with the Black Panther Emory Douglas and some artists from the collective foundation show. Unfortunately there wasn’t a discussion of a gift economy and art, just a bunch of serialized presentations. The free drinks were generous though.

I wrote an obit about Jason some time ago at Sharkforum. I knew him and say what I enjoyed about him as a person and my philosophical opposition to his art and its influence (one of his gallerists told me he agreed, by the way). Here’s the link:

Good book review by Terri Griffith and Joanna Topor.

Some of the Collective Foundation’s ideas are quite inspiring. I think their activities could be applied in slightly altered foms to other places — like Chicago (micro grants, their print-on-demand stuff, just plain get-out-and.do-it instead of waiting around attitude, etc etc.). Good luck to them!
